Standing Up For Yourself.

The Boy came home earlier in the week and waited for my standard question given every day after school: Did you have a good day today?

Apparently there was a problem. This girl kept taking The Boy's crayons and breaking them. When he asked her to stop, she threatened to rip out a page from The Single Greatest Book Ever Written his Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. The Boy stressed that in the past if This Girl was, say, breaking crayons, Mr. H would just tell The Boy to sit back down and not worry about it. But worry he did because HELLO she was going to RIP A PAGE FROM THE MOST AWESOME BOOK EVER.

And so The Boy did the only thing he could think of.

He threw a crayon at this girl. Who then tattled to the teacher. And the teacher moved a ticket and informed The Boy he lost points.

The Boy, in explaining what all happened stressed over and over that he didn't know the crayon could actually hurt her and he did not throw it hard and if he had known it would hurt her that bad he would never have thrown it.

But us, the parents? Just saw evidence of The Boy standing up for himself and not letting This Girl bully him. Standing up for himself for the first time.

A reminder to ask for help, signing the paper that stated The Boy lost 10 conduct points, and an assurance that the girl could not be that hurt followed.

But all the while - truth be told - I was (1) proud he stood up and (2) thinking I probably would have thrown the crayon, too.
