Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-Eight

Today I am thankful for God & Jesus. They are part of the Bible. We always learn about them at church. And they are the most important people on earth. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and He rose again so all our sins would be gone if we just believe in Him. And then you will not perish and will have eternal life.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-Seven

Today I am thankful for my family. We love each other. I am thankful I am in my family because my family loves me. I am the only kid and I don't have to fight over anything but I'm like a guinea pig and need a playmate. I don't have anybody to argue with. I get to have all my toys to myself. I'm the only child in the family so I'm the favorite. I do wish sometimes I had a brother or sister but that is never going to happen. We are actually a family of six because we have a dog and 2 guinea pigs. I love my family.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-Six

Today I am thankful for my cousins. They are both cute and plus THEY'RE MY COUSINS.
Tyler is so cute. He's my cousin. I especially make him half of both - make him cry and make him laugh. How do I do that people?!
Kaleb I don't know much about because he's not born yet so I have to wait until he's born and then I can tell you facts.

I love my cousins as long as the Pacific Ocean - and that is like one of the biggest oceans in the world.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-Three

I am thankful for my grandparents. They love me. They give me hugs and kisses but don't embarrass me. They are part of my family. They give me presents. They let me spend the night. And I love them.

Note: David says if BigMama really loved The Boy she would make more pecan pie for his father.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-Two

Today I am thankful for my uncles. They let me jump across the sofa. I love them because they are wild. And they teach me stuff like how arm pit farts with a straw. And how to take off my shirt and wave it over my head and scream I LOVE SCHOOL! And I love them, too. PEACE.
(Note: Above photo is crazy old but as true to form as you can get)

Oh and P.S. I love Auntie Amber and Aunt Amanda, too!

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty-One

The Boy: I am thankful for sharks. I love dangerous animals and the shark is a dangerous animal. My favorite shark is the hammerhead shark. I like it because it has a really cool head.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twenty

Know what Mommy? I'm thankful for Christmas. Because it's the birthday of Jesus. And because Christmas is when I got baptized.
He's a smart one, The Boy. We're thankful the Father Sent His Son To Be The Savior Of The World, too.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Nineteen

Today I am thankful for Georgia Football. Did you know if Georgia beats Kentucky they will get to plan in a championship game?? I'm a little bit Alabaman fan but a LOT Georgia fan!

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Eighteen

The Boy: I am thankful for crocs. I call them crocs instead of crocodiles because I really like them. They are one of my favorite most dangerous creatures.
(Exert from The Boy's writing journal: If I would type an email to somebody it would be Landon. And I will say Hey Landon want to go hunt for hammerhead sharks and salt water crocodiles.)

Today I am thankful for Family Nights at ChickFilA. It was fun to do the shaving cream on the tables. And then we saw Ms Jessica and Mr Brett and Baby Eli. And we saw Josh. AND I got to play on the playground!

Doesn't get much better than that. And also? The Boy Is Awesome.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Thirteen

"Mommy I want today to be the day I am thankful for scorpions."

I know what you're thinking. Why is he randomly picking scorpions? You just don't know how many conversations in our house center around scorpions. Death Stalker Scorpion, Sand Scorpions, Red Claw Scorpions. I will tell you this now - there is only one thing we talk about more lately and that is sharks. But I digress.

The Boy is jonesin' for a pet scorpion "for either Christmas or maybe my birthday." We the parents are wondering if he has truly lost his mind. He throws out random scorpion facts. He Google's scorpions. He talks to Emma at school because she has a scorpion. And today he walked up to the church librarian and asked for help in finding a book on scorpions (they did).Jury's still out on if he will in fact get a scorpion in the next year or two. But until then we will continue to be amazed at just how many random facts we can learn about scorpions around these parts.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Twelve

Today The Boy did not hesitate in his thankfulness. He very matter-of-fact said to me "Mommy you know what I'm going to say for today's Thankfulness Thing" - and he gestured his head towards this:The Boy has long been a fan of the Waffle House. On his 2nd Birthday we took him to dinner there. He loves to get a plain waffle and a plain hash brown. It's dining at its finest for sure. And when we headed to breakfast there on Saturday morning? It was like the Best Thing Ever - especially since we shared the breakfast with family!
Today we are thankful for The Waffle House. Doesn't get much better than that.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Eleven

The Boy: Today I am thankful I get to go to Athens for a party and will get to see everybody in Athens.

We loaded up the Kia and headed for Athens Friday for a quick trip in honor of Daniel's returning from Afghanistan and Rhett's birthday. The Boy was psyched to see all his Athens family and we all had a fabulous time hanging at the party tossing the football and playing cornhole (our first times ever!). It was good to see all the Athens Family! The Boy is already planning what all he wants to do when he heads back to Athens for the holidays :)

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Ten

Today we were initially thankful for a new yo-yo but when it crashed and shattered on the floor resulting in pieces and a no-longer-functioning yo-yo a tear-stained face looked at me and said 'it was my first best yo-yo!' followed by 'I guess it's not my thankful thing for today anymore' and then there were more tears and sobbing and I thought we were going to have to have a FUNERAL for the yo-yo people. I pledged to buy another yo-yo when I get paid and even THAT wasn't enough because *sob* what if I forget. And then I beat my head against the wall and cursed the 'Friday Fun Box' for ever giving us a yo-yo in the first place . . . No, no that last part didn't happen. And this is about being thankful. And thankful we shall be! And so The Boy, when asked what else he is thankful for, said "I am thankful for Alex."
The Boy: "Alex is a very good friend. We go to Chill together. And we went to Six Flags and it was the best day ever. And we had play dates and stuff. She is a good church friend. And Alex is nice. I am thankful for Alex."

And then he asked when we were going to Chill again and when we can have a party with Alex again.

When I was getting ready to post this gem I found two old pics of The Boy & Alex. How incredibly precious were they? The Boy refusing to look at the camera. Alex absolutely adorable as always could you not just eat her up? Years later it's still the same ~ The Boy is still making me want to pull my hair out and judging by the above photo STILL not looking at the camera - and Alex is still sweet as ever.

Sigh. Those two have grown up way too fast. Regardless we are thankful for yo-yo's but not when they break. And we are especially thankful for Alex! Happy Thursday all. Be safe and make good choices ~ Shan.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Nine

The Boy: Tonight I am thankful for church. I like it on Wednesday nights when Daddy does a lesson. Except now all we do is sing but I really like the air guitar songs.

I then asked The Boy what his favorite Bible Story and this is how that conversation went: I guess it would be Noah because I know the most about that one. See I already told you about the dragons and unicorns horsing around and missing the boat. And then there was this big huge flood. And there were 40 days and 40 nights. It rained A LOT. And then SKITTLE the boat went up on a mountain. Noah went outside - man I REALLY want to have one more fry because I am SO hungry - so Noah went outside and let some birds go. And then the water went away and I think the birds just went and found some people or something. (Me: Um yeah remember the flood destroyed everything) Oh yeah so the birds just went and found some shelter and food. Or maybe that got eaten by a shark - did you know sharks were here before Adam and Eve? Mr Holland told me that. What is your favorite shark? I like hammerheads. And then Noah and his family saw a rainbow. Do you think there are pots of gold for real? And that rainbow was a promise to not destroy the earth with all the rain again. But you know it did rain really hard one time but it didn't destroy the earth.

I then asked him for a favorite Awana verse and he chose: The Father has sent His son to be the Savior of the world.

The Boy also said he loves Awana because they get to play on the playground. And in case you did not know, he's really thankful for playgrounds.

Before I head on to bed because this week is wearing me down I want to state how very thankful I am to the awesome Richard Leary for figuring out how to set the time on my watch. It has now appropriately 'fallen back' and I don't have to do math each time I look at my watch! Richard is my hero.

Time for bed around here. Y'all be safe & make good choices. ~ Shan.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Eight

The Boy: I am thankful for my team party. And I am thankful for baseball. I like my trophy. And it spins. My favorite part of baseball was the batting. I remember the one time at second when I knocked the ball out of Bryn's hand but I came off the base and thought I was out. Lane was one of my friends from the Astros.

We had the Team Party tonight and it was L O U D with all the Astros there at the table together playing 'Raise Your Hand If You . . . " It has been a fun season and The Boy has learned so much. I'm kind of sad to be leaving Coach Chris and Coach Chris. And it won't be the same not sitting on the side of the dugout since Lane's parents won't be there. The Boy was psyched to get his first ever trophy though! And he's looking forward to Spring Ball at American and then coming back to Northern next Fall!

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Seven

The Boy: Today I am thankful for going on walks after school with Mommy.

After school today I came home a bit early since I had to type reports from home later in the evening. The gym daycare wasn't available until 4 so I decided Why Not Go Ahead And Walk - so The Boy and I did a mile in the neighborhood. I walked/slow jogged and he rode his scooter since the bike had a flat. First time I've done any exercise since surgery. I came home and attempted planks - I was much more successful with the walk. Hope to hit up the gym later this week. For now The Boy's been asleep for an hour already and I think I will head on to bed myself! Be Safe & Make Good Choices. ~ Shan.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Six

The Boy: I am thankful for FAN Day because we got to eat after church and I got to throw the football and play on the playground with my friends

FAN Day was a fun time - and The Hardegrees represented UGA with our Georgia shirts. The Boy made this fabulous UGA sign with the help of a friend, who drew the Dawg there at the bottom. As he helped The Boy I heard The Boy say "yeah it looks a little like a cockroach but I can go with it" Go Dawgs! And Happy FAN Day

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Five

The Boy: I am thankful for Fall Festivals. My favorite part of today's Fall Festival was getting Ms. Combs with the Cheese Touch! My favorite booth was the Twister game. And I won at the cake walk and got sugar cookies with icing and colorful sprinkles!

Today was the Fall Festival at The Boy's school. I had to work his class booth for an hour and a half but we did enjoy fun things like getting The Boy's face painted, playing on inflatables and spinning a prize wheel (parachute men! we finally got an 8!). Ended our day with the Twister Game where he did, as a matter of fact, get Ms. Combs with the Cheese Touch (whatever THAT means) - and I thought this would be a quick stop and we could be on our way home. How wrong I was when 10 minutes later The Boy was Still Going Strong. They finally said Everyone Is A Winner in the Game That Would Not End. Fabulous job on the Fall Festival DCE! We had a blast!

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Four

Me: What are you thankful for today?
The Boy: I am thankful for baseball.
Me: So what do you love about baseball?
The Boy: BATTING.
Me: And what was your favorite position you played?
The Boy: Well tonight it was catcher
Me: What was your favorite memory from baseball in Fall Ball?
The Boy: Playing the Spikes and getting to do compliments with Tripp. We played our last Fall Ball game tonight - it was rescheduled since last night there was a downpour. We played The Dawgs, which is a team that Sends Them All. We, of course, lost due to the 10-run-rule because of the Send 'Em practices of their coaches but The Boy said he had fun. Fall Ball has been a learning experience and we've seen So Much Growth. I warmed up with The Boy tonight and he is able to throw the ball so much better now. He's anxious for Spring Ball to start - we're just sad we won't be back at Northern.

Early bedtime around here - it's Fall Festival at the school tomorrow! And who knows - we might even put up the tree tomorrow afternoon. Be safe and make good choices y'all. ~ Shan.

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Three

"Today I am thankful for my friend Jaxon. Yesterday was his birthday and I didn't get to go to his party because he moved far away. I wonder when I can see Jaxon again? He had to move to Texas. Jaxon was one of my best friends and I really miss him."

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day Two

"Today I am thankful Mr. Holland let us go play on the playground. I'm really thankful for playgrounds."

Thirty Days of Thankful: Day One

The Boy: Today I am thankful you let me play an extra 20 minutes at Tony's this afternoon.

The Mom will note I let him play an extra 20 but he took an extra 5 more without permission resulting in the loss of Cars 2. After a long discussion that included how much I, his mother, do not like Punk Second Graders, I will say I am so thankful for children that behave. I won't just think he is behaving because I have his Most Prized Possession Hidden Where He Will Never Find It.

Also I refuse to be frustrated by the question I was asked just before he went to bed: How Many Times Do I Have To Listen Before You Give Me Back My DVD? And all I can think is Oh I Don't Know How About FOREVER

Be Safe. Make Good Choices. ~ Shan.
