Happy Halloween!

The Boy 'made' his own costume. He decided all on his own The Best Costume EVER would be a DJ. I think he rocks the DJ look:"Hey Mommy can I be a DJ when I grow up?" Well it's not a job that pays the bills so maybe you can just do that on the side?
You think those moves are awesome you should see his Dance Moves!

And as the night ends, we find Skittles and gum for The Boy, Kit Kats and Reese's for The Mom. A great night all around!

It's past bedtime though and morning will be rough if I don't go and Be The Mom and insist on Everyone Heading To Bed. Be safe. Make good choices. And Happy Halloween! ~ Shan.

Two Worth Remembering.

The Boy: So you know Noah and all? I bet that was a hurricane.
Me: It was a flood son. It destroyed the earth.
The Boy: EVEN THE UNITED STATES?!
Me: Son. Remember? Everything. People, land. All but Noah and his family.
The Boy: Oh yeah. And two of all the animals. Except for unicorns and dragons because they were off playing and missed the boat.
Me - shaking my head - because I don't know what else to do.

Going over Awana verses with The Boy and we listened to the Awana CD to hear the story of the Centurion. When it was finished I said "So what amazing things did the Centurion see at the cross?" which is a question he will have to answer tonight. The Boy quickly replied 'A GIANT WHALE.' I racked my brain trying to figure out the whale and then said "oh um no son - that was that Jesus WAILED - he cried out Forgive Them Father not said Forgive Them Father while a giant whale went by."

Best Game EVER

Friday evening late we got a text from Coach saying he was sorry The Boy didn't get to play in-field during the game but to have him be ready to play 3rd on Monday. We quickly sent back a text saying it was not necessary, made a decision to not say anything Just In Case it didn't come about, and then I, MOTHER OF THE YEAR, got up early (for me) on Saturday and took The Boy to the field to learn how to play 3rd base. Forty straight minutes of practicing there - scenarios, what do you do, get your glove on the ground. And then he wanted to have some batting practice - we won't talk about how the first pitch I threw I nailed him in the back, thus crashing all my dreams of being a C-ball coach in the Spring - but batting wasn't as fun with just The Mom and The Boy so we decided to call it a morning. I would later realize one of the reasons I Could Not Move Saturday afternoon was directly related to this intense 3rd Base Introductory Session.

But then we got to the game Monday night - the late game mind you - and Coach says to The Boy - "You're Starting On Third!" and his smile was as big as the infield! Meanwhile my stress-level was as big as the outfield. He made a play or two and learned a few things like you can't block the bag and all-in-all did a fine job over there on third. And he later moved to catcher and then back out in the outfield. Hit the ball each at bat. Just had a fabulous game all around (which if we're going by the State Of The White Pants it was incredibly awesome - I'm not sure Shout! can get it all out).

We lost by one point to a team that beat us by 10 the first time they played us. Go Astros! And the game ball of the night? Went to THE BOY! Super psyched for a job well done. I can't believe how much The Boy rules!

We have a few days off from practice. We're taking some time to do things like Go To Bed At A Decent Hour and Get Our Homework Finished. Just normal run of the mill 2nd grade stuff! But here in the Hardegree Diaries we are CRAZY PROUD of The Boy for playing 3rd and getting his first game ball! Rock On!

And since the back to work blues are making me exhausted I leave you with this: Be Safe, Make good choices, Pray that mountain moves. We'll be back soon. ~ Shan.

A Saturday Snapshot on Sunday.

CFA Fall Festival on Saturday - The Boy requested his face be painted as a pumpkin. Adorable, no? We won't go in to how many scrubs it took to get that orange hue and black scrub from his face during bath time.

Busy weekend full of baseball practice, grocery shopping, fall festival-ing, playing Snakes & Escalators Slides & Stairs Chutes and Ladders, church, shooting the bow and birthday partying it up at the bowling alley, where The Boy showed his Mad Dance Skillz.

Gearing up for a busy week, starting off my return to work with a full Monday coupled with the late baseball game. Everyone send lots of energy my way!

Be safe. Make good choices. And pray for mountains to be moved - God knows what mountain I'm talking about.

Ugh.

See you get all far behind and then you don't know where to start! The biggest thing to note is that I've been sleeping. This would be thanks to Ambien. I attempted to not take one Friday and I was still wide awake at 2 a.m. - thus the insomnia post surgery continues (and I had a busy day! I should have been exhausted!) and Ambien continues to Be My Friend.

Things worth noting, in lazy bullet fashion:
* Dave and I both got our eyes checked. My right eye is worse, which I already knew. My glasses will be ready this weekend. David needed bifocals and refused. His TWO PAIRS OF GLASSES DUE TO REFUSAL will be ready in 7-10 days. He looked all hot in his glasses when he tried them on so he does have that going for him. I just hope his track record with glasses is greater than his track record with keys to his truck. Ahem.

* The Boy continues to enjoy baseball. Their team is on a killer winning streak, having won the last several games. He lives for thumbs-up from his fan section next to the dug-out. He does not live for the yells of SWING THE BAT SON when he swings like a sissy, or so he says. Thankfully tonight's game was rained out - and he chose to go shoot his bow in an archery tournament instead.

* Also worth noting: The Boy continues to pop in my room just before bedtime wearing various attire, including but not limited to a cape, 3-d glasses, a cross necklace, head phones (old school ones) around his neck, Larry Boy hat, red glove and carrying a Nerf cross-bow. He likes to push the limits of bedtime by requesting to read a few more pages of his Phineas & Ferb chapter book. And remember he was going to watch that show that came on at 8?

* The dog continues to bark at all the kids that hint at walking/riding/running down the street, driving me insane.

My brain is mush, I'm exhausted and any minute I expect The Boy to come in and the bedtime festivities to start. I pinky swear to do better at blogging.

Be Safe. Make good choices. I'll be back soon. And who knows, maybe next time I'll bring pictures.
